The Great Meeting Chapel was built in 1708 by the Independents and Presbyterians for a
congregation that had been in existence since 1680. One of the earliest brick building of any ambition in the town, it is two storeys high with four bays and a hipped roof. The porch with its Tuscan columns was added in 1866.
