Jagaate

India / Karnataka / Kodlipet /

"Jaagate" the Name of village is unique it has got its own history, when Lord Sri Rama was returning to Ayodhya after recusing Sita they were through this village, a thorn pricked Lakshmana's foot, he sat down here on this hill top to remove the thorn. He saw some musicians passing by (Vaadydavaru in Kannada a caste of people whose profession is play music for all kind of function & pooja ), he asked them for help, but they went away saying they din't have time, Lord Lakshmana said that the people of this village would construct his temple here and worship him, they would not use Vaadyadavaru and their music instruments for his pooja, They will only use " JAAGATE " (a type of musical instrument) so that's how this place got the name " Jaagate", which over a period of time became Jaagata. Till date people in this village worship Lord Lakshmana as their god. This is among a very few temples in India where Lord Lakshmana is worshiped as main deity. Jaagate Village people celebrate yearly pooja & Jaatre (Fair) on the first Thursday before Deepavali of every year and no other musical instruments except Jaagate (the instrument is used).
