One of the oldest staduims in Ranchi... used to be home for ranji trophy matches ... players like azhar-ud-din , chetan sharma and Mahinder Singh Dhoni (Mahi) have played here.Come January 2016 and Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will join the likes of Donald Bradman, Vivian Richards and Jacques Kallis when his cricketing cradle, the Mecon stadium in his hometown Ranchi, will be baptized as the Mahendra Singh Dhoni Stadium to commemorate his 10 year international cricketing career.

The green where Dhoni played tennis ball cricket and later learned the basics of the game's conventional form after he switched from soccer under his school coaches will carry his name for posterity, Mecon authorities announced here on Wednesday.

"The stadium will be rechristened in January next year and will be special occasion for us,. The program's schedule has been kept in sync with the golden jubilee celebrations of Jawahar Vidya Mandir (JVM) - Dhoni's alma mater. The Mecon colony in Shyamali is where Dhoni grew up nurturing his love for cricket, soccer and bikes. His father Paan Singh Dhoni was a pump operator at Mecon. While a student at JVM, Dhoni was regular at the nearby stadium, exhilarating his gang and later his teams with his brute hitting that earned him a place in the national side.
