The Kristine church, which is situated at Stora Torget in the centre of the town, is one of Sweden's most splendid renaissance works. Falun agreed to build the church in return for being granted its Town Charter (1641). The "New Town's church" was completed between 1642 and 1655, and the interior was decorated in a Baroque and Renaissance style, dominated by Caroline blue and sandstone red, with gilt adornments.
