Gagnef Church, which lies on the western edge of the small town, can trace its origins to the medieval period. The oldest parts of the church date from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The church was extended on several occasions during the following centuries. It has been little changed since the eighteenth century. The church serves a parish of the established Swedish National Church, which is Lutheran.
