The brewery was opened in it's original (Northern) location in 1896 as Capitol Brewing Company. In 1902 the name Olympia Brewing Company was chosen and the red brick brewery as we see it today was built in 1906. During prohibition the brewery produced AppleJu but profits were low so they dismantled the brewery's equipment and sold it for use as a pulp mill. When prohibition was lifted Leopold Schmidt sold his hotel holdings to build the second, modern brewery (Southern) in 1934. Later Olympia Brewing Company was sold to Pabst, Pabst to Miller and Miller to South African Brewing Company which closed the brewery in 2003.

  • It'll never happen, nevermind the cost, the plans dont even make sense! They have Capitol Boulevard, I5 and the river all screwed up, dammit!
  • The above comment is referring to the statement that Triway Enterprises was planning to put condos on the brewery property which would be a load of shit really...
  • I miss the old brewery. They used to server Oly dark after the tour!
