  In August of 2007 Motorola closed this 300 person facility. In 2008 the building was sold to a corporation the University of Illinois employs to manage the Research Park. The 78,000 sq. ft. building will be reconfigured to house several businesses going forward. With the closure of this Motorola facility three corporations established a new presence in Champaign/Urbana making use of the Motorola staff. Yahoo!, ASTC and Qualcom each opened operations in Champaign with Yahoo! employing about one half of those who lost their Motorola positions. Through the efforts of local Design Center management, Motorola HR staff, UI Research Park representatives and the affected employees themselves all but 3% of the local staff had landed new jobs by the sites official closure date.
