Small fishing and tourist village. The nearest big city is Helston. Also known because
Wing Commander Guy Penrose Gibson VC, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar, RAF (12 August 1918 – 19 September 1944) moved her with his parents when he was six in 1924.
Gibson was born in Simla, India, during the British Raj, the son of Alexander James Gibson and Norah Gibson.
During WWII he was CO of 617 Sqn RAF "Dambusters" and he won the VC for his actions on the raid to destroy the Dams in Germany.
He was killed on 19 September 1944 while flying a Mosquito together with Sqn Leader J Warwick DFC over Holland and is buried in the Roman Catholic Church yard in Steenbergen North Brabant.
Pothleven and Steenbergen both have a street with his name in his Honour.

    Alas, more tourist than fishing. A beautiful location wherein it seems a majority of the houses are given over to holiday lets or second homes, giving it a theme park feel. Set off straight out of the harbour, keep going, and the next land you meet will be Brazil.
