Built in the late 1970s as a complex known as Jamaica Resort Hotels, with two adjacent and entirely separate hotels. The northern hotel was originally the Inter-Continental Ocho Rios, later the Americana Ocho Rios. The southern hotel was first the Mallards Beach-Hyatt, then the Ocho Rios Sheraton Hotel, then the Mallards Beach Hotel, then the Ramada Mallards Beach Hotel.

In 1992, the Ramada and the Americana were renovated and joined into one huge hotel complex, forming the Renaissance Jamaica Grande Resort. It was later renamed Sunset Jamaica Grande. Purchased by Palace Hotel in 2014, it reopened in Fall 2015 as Moon Palace Jamaica Grande
