Used to provide range and direction data for the heavy 8-inch and 16-inch coast defense batteries at Fort Story and Fort John Custis during WWII. The tower on the left served the batteries located at Fort Custis and Fishermans Island. The center tower served Fort Story, and the tower on the right served Fort Custis and Fort Story.
