Tremont is a ghost town that was originally known as New City West, after the prosperous nearby settlement City West that had been abandoned in 1837. New City West eventually faced the fate of its namesake, dwindling until it was completely abandoned over a century later. This outline shows the borders of New City West in 1852, which correspond with the borders of the later downtown area of Tremont.
