This is one of the best colleges in western Maharashtra.Rajaram College, one of the oldest educational institutions in the city, will host its alumni meet on Sunday at its campus, a college circular stated.The circular added that in the past 135 years in the history of the college, students have carved their names at the national and international level. The college is organising a meet for all past students at the college premises."The meet has been organised to provide a platform for past students, retired teachers and the non-teaching staff to interact," it added.The Rajaram College was established in 1880.
In fact, the high school was named after His Highness Rajaram Maharaj and was set up in 1870. After a decade, it was raised to the status of a college, in the old palace adjacent to Bhavani Mandap in Kolhapur city.Mahatama Gandhi's political guru Gopal Krishna Gokhale a Rajaram College alumnus and completed his BA in 1884. Yashwantrao Chavan, former chief minister of Maharashtra was another influential alumnus. Chavan completed his graduation in history and economics in 1934. B D Jatti, the former vice-president of India (1974-1979) also did his graduation from Rajaram college.
