Fort Griswold - Revolutionary War Era earthen fortification.

Site of the Battle of Groton Heights fought on September 6, 1781 between a small Connecticut militia force led by Lieutenant Colonel William Ledyard and the more numerous British forces led by Brigadier General Benedict Arnold and Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Eyre.

The fort was the site of the Fort Griswold Massacre, one of the most controversial events during the American Revolution, and the second major scandalous episode involving the traitor Benedict Arnold.
