Fort H.G. Wright was named March 24, 1900 in honor of the late Major General Horatio G. Wright, U.S. Volunteers, a distinguished officer of the war of 1861-65, and Chief of Engineers, U.S. Army, 1879-84. The fort was active between 1898 and 1948.
