  • Palmville on first entry may calm one with the sight of cool fountains, greenery and swimming pool. Be not deluded. Repeated renovation blights the ear with pneumatic drills and sledge-hammers. No prior notice, no mufflers fitted to noisy machinery. Renovation lowers rentals and returnable values as owners and tenants pursued by noise move out preferring to live elsewhere. One international student worried his kitchen ceiling would descend to the floor. Fortunately, universities nearby are building accommodation addressing the study and work needs of this academic market. Repeated complaints have been made to the Management Office: we have been told that the renovation is within 'House Rules'. Complaints have been further addressed to Menara Sunway who are the ultimate managers. Sunway Education spends huge sums advertising for foreign students and academics: when they live in Sunway property, they are subjected to this intolerable noise of pneumatic drills and sledge-hammering all day long. This issue has occurred repeatedly, and new policy is needed. The House Rules conflict with the standard Malaysian rental contract guaranteeing 'peaceable and quiet' tenancy. The effect on occupant health is likely to contravene the Malaysian Health and Safety Act (1994). Urgent action is needed: thank you Sunway Corp for your speedy co-operation in resolving this issue of noise polluting the environment.
