O'Donnell Golf Club (Palm Springs, California)

O'Donnell Golf Club is the oldest golf course in Palm Springs. The property was purchased in 1925 by oil magnate Thomas O'Donnell. Over the next several years, O'Donnell carefully planned and built the golf course at his own personal expense, including purchasing 750 shares of Whitewater Mutal Water Company stock, to help bring water down from Whitewater Canyon, which was piped 14 miles to a reservoir that O'Donnell built at the corner of what is now N. Palm Canyon Drive and Stevens Road. That reservoir was abandoned decades ago and the course now has its own water supply on the property.

After operating the golf course for more than fifteen years at his own expense, Tom O'Donnell in 1944 organized O'Donnell Golf Club as a private, non-profit club to which he gave a 99-year lease for the golf course, the reservoir property and the 750 shares of Whitewater Mutual stock.
