  • Initially the East Indian Railway started functioning from an office situated at 29 Theatre Road. Later the office shifted to its present location at Fairlie Place in 1879. It got its name from a merchant called William Fairlie of the firm Fairlie, Gilmone & Co. His main job was to supply and feed elephants and camels for the British army during the time of Lord Wellesley. This building actually housed the Indian National Museum for two years prior to the railways taking it over. It was truly a part of the North West Bastion of Old Fort William-- a plate on the boundary wall announces that. You can also see a partially buried canon in the Strand Road corner of Fairlie Place on the footpath-- sadly hidden among the numerous makeshift puri & jalebi stalls despite lying right in front of all of us.
  • Sir, I was travelling in Gour express from malda to sealdah on 27. 02. 12. In B-2 AC compartment , there was a passenger in seat number - 43 , named Borkot Ali . Two persons were with him. I was hearing their conversation. I have doubt that they are terrorist or they have connection with the murder case of a railway AC coach attendant , that was happened few days ago and the news came to news media. Regards

  • Sir, I Smt Rekha Rani Roy Chowdhury wife of late Sibani Sankar Roy Chowdhury who was an employee Ex (DSK II, Store LLH) residing at Vill & P.O – Bainan Howrah, expired on 20/09/2011. I find from my bank account statement that on 16/07/2015 my revision amount was credited in my account and on 07/12/2015 the said amount was withdrawn by bank from my account and bank kept the amount in reserve. On enquiry the bank said that we are unable to release the amount until the relevant revision papers comes from the railway office. , I am almost blind and my left hand was imputed due to railway accident. I attended the railway pension office at liluah and requested them to send the papers to bank so that bank can release the payment and I can withdrawn the amount required for my treatment and livelihood.
