Basgo is located 40 Km west of Leh. Above the village is the ruin of the former capitol(15th century). The temples are maintained by monks from Likir monastery. They have 3 Buddha Maitreya statues. The biggest "Chamba gompa" has recently been renovated. The temples have been built by King Tsewang Namgyal in the 15th century. The village of Basgo is inhabitated mainly by farmers. Since it is located at the Himank Highway it becomes a tourist site lately.
