The Museum of Jakobstad was founded in 1904. The extensive collections of objects, photographs, art and textiles relate the history of the town. The most important unit of the museum is the Malm House at Storgatan 2. The house was built in the 1830s by shipowner and tradesman Peter Malm. He was one of the most successful shipowners in Finland of his time. The main building was designed by architect Anders Granstedt from Helsinki.
