In Jun 2009, the Pennsylvania DEP said it planned to approve the repowering of Hunlock Creek-3 with two gas turbines. At the end of May 2010, the coal-fired boiler was retired and approximately 50 workers let go or reassigned as construction continued on the $100mn repowering project, scheduled to complete Q1, 2011. Units 1&2 were retired in 1975.
