Bucks County has a long history of community based corrections. In 1963 Bucks County became the first county corrections department in Pennsylvania to open a work release facility separate from the county jail. Today, the Department operates both a Men's and Women's Community Corrections Center. These two Centers are community based, minimum security, work release facilities.

The philosophy for minimum custody and work release emphasizes personal accountability and treatment, while offering residents an opportunity to help themselves and their families. To allow for a smoother transition from incarceration to release, the Department also uses another form of supervision known as House Arrest. Through electronic monitoring and community corrections supervision, offenders are moved to the lowest required level of supervision while maintaining public safety.
