The casona de San Lorenzo was an adobe housed located in the town of San Lorenzo de Flores. It was built in 1844 by Buenaventura Espinach Gual, who had revolutionized the production of coffee in Costa Rica by introducting in 1838 the first west "beneficio" in Cartago. At the end of the 19th century, it was bought by Julio Sánchez Lépiz, grandfather of president Óscar Arias and known as the "King of Coffee". The property is currently in the claws of another descendent, Marcela Sánchez. The house was illegally destroyed April 28th 2010 in spite of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of San Lorenzo.
