Alaska Packer's Wharf (Alameda, California)

The Alaska Packers formed at this location in 1893 at which time this was a salmon canning facility. Their fleet wintered in the Alaska Basin to the west of this facility.

The wharf is currently used for storing ISO standard shipping containers and trailers though there are plans to develop the wharf for other purposes.

  • My father signed on to work in the Alaska Packers fish canneries and sailed to Alaska as a passenger in 1924(?) on a sailing ship like the Balcutha in San Francisco. Star of something Does anybody know where I can find more info about the ships canneries ect.?
