The United Counties of Pastaland, or UCP, is a country in the Pacific Ocean with a population of 62,041,728 (2010 census). It was discovered in 1892 by Italian explorer Francesco Penne, and it became an Italian colony in 1901. From 1901 until 1940, it was ruled by the same ruler as Italy. In 1940, the Americans and British invaded, starting the Pastaland War (part of WWII) and in 1943 the Italians surrendered and it was passed over to the British. From 1940 until 1943, during the Pastaland War, no one ruled the island and thousands of people fled, mainly to Australia. In 1943, the Prime Minister of Britain came to power in the islands, and the British Prime Ministers ruled the island until 1956, when the people wanted to be independent and a war broke out (the Pastaland War of Independence). The war raged on until 1960, devastating the island and once again causing the people to flee. In 1960, Pastaland was officially declared an independent democratic republic, and in the same year, the first official government formed (however, from 1956-60, the Pastaland Independence Party was the unofficial, de facto government). Elections are held every 4 years. The current prime minister is Alberto Linguine, with the government being a Pastaland Liberal Democrats / Pastaland Conservative coalition.
