One Tree Hill (or Maungakiekie in Māori) is a 182 metre volcanic peak.

The hill's scoria cones erupted 20,000 - 30,000 years ago, creating lava flows that covered an area of 20 square kilometres, mostly towards Onehunga, making it the largest (in terms of area covered) of the Auckland volcanic field.

There is an obelisk at the summit, and a tree that has been damaged by "indigenous" protestors.

Comments

  • The place where U2's Bono escaped for an evening with some Auckland locals. The events later inspired the song 'One Tree Hill' on the 1987 album 'The Joshua Tree'
  • That low-life malcontent and delinquent Mike Smith - the asshole who caused the tree to be removed after he attacked it with a chainsaw - should be ground up in a mincer, then the remains used to fertilize the replacement tree...
