mansion / manor house / villa, 1929_construction, 1920s construction, Mediterranean Revival (architecture)
Built in 1929 for Margaret Durant Cooper, daughter of William Durant{GM}, to designs by Maurice Fatio. This Mediterranean Revival-style house is considered “one of Fatio’s best homes”. In the early 1930s the house was owned by Eleanor Elkins Rice{Titanic survivor} for whom Fatio added a garage. Originally had Gothic windows in the living and dining rooms. They were replaced by Fatio years later to large simple square windows, offering better views of the ocean.
