Khirsu Govt. Inter College of today has its roots in the Middle school established some time in 1906-7 by Britishers. It is evident from the architecture of the old building. The school had hostel with boarding facility. Khirsu being at 6000 feet amsl with thick oak forest was devoid of any drinking water. And hence the folklore- "Khirsu boarding lagyun cha Nirpani ka danda( nirpani= without water)". The architecture of the building caused heavy losses to the contractor leading to his(fleeing to Calcutta) and the workers plight.
The Middle School started in 1906-7 as such this is the Centanary Year of the School. It was upgraded to High School level by the local public through their donation and efforts in 1961, susquently to Inter College and was finally taken over by the State Govt.Khirsu deserves a full fledged Degree College as there is large population around it and now good water supply from the far off sources. Hope the dream comes true very soon.
Khirsu infact deserves to be designated as- "Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand India".
