  • Bu'aale was a town controlled by the Juba Valley Alliance (JVA) during the Somali Civil War. In 2006, the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) took the town on October 15, 2006. The Transitional Federal Government (TFG), which had absorbed the JVA forces, and promoted its commander, Col. Hirale, as the Defense Minister, retook the town, along with significant intervening forces from Ethiopia, on December 29, 2006.
