The Vierling House, built well north on Church Street not far from God's Acre in 1802, was home to Dr. Samuel Benjamin Vierling and his family. Trained in Berlin, at the age of 24 Vierling was called to Salem as medicus, or physician - he arrived in 1790.

The Vierling House today represents the apothecary and home of the doctor, along with fixed displays on the upper floor that showcase the tools and supplies of the working doctor. Behind the house is also a wash and bake house typical of the times, when certain types of cooking were better exercised at a distance from the main house. The home's adjacent barn today houses rest rooms and other facilities.
