Located on a former coal and rail yard for a long gone ComEd power plant, Addison Mall was built in the late 1980's and was anchored by retailers Montgomery Ward and Kids-R-Us. In the late 1990's the mall went through hard times as both retailers went into decline and ultimately closed. When Montgomery Ward declared bankruptcy in 2000, Target Corp aquired the two story building, renovating it and adding a multi-level parking garage in the rear of the mall. With Target as the new anchor, and despite the loss of Kids-R-Us in the mid-2000s, the mall has once again become popular with local residents, and has attracted new retailers such as GameStop. A small sit down restaurant called Dapper's East is a survivor from the mall's original opening day tenants.
