Bukit Apek

Malaysia / Selangor / Ampang Jaya /

They called this Apek Hill (or Bukit Apek in Malay) because there are so many Apek (Chinese Hokkien dialect for old man) climbing the hills. There are lots of aunties too. On weekends (Sat. n sun) there are many ahmoi, lenglui and lengchai climb the hills. One can find little pre-school children climb this hill too.

The climb is moderately challenging - occasionally we find muddy pockets along the trails where rainwater got trapped. But generally the rainwater runs off the surface making the track mostly walkable even it after rain. An with the help of various ropes tied to the trees, visitor can ascent and descent the sloppy areas safely.

Surprisingly, there are not many mosquitoes in that jungle perhaps because there are no stagnant water that could breed them.

Although we can find people climb the hills anytime from 6:30 am till 6pm the most popular times are 8-11am and 4-6pm daily.

No special gear are required but a good grip footwear would be nice to wear. Some people just prefer to be barefooted.
