Union Township contains all of the village of Hebron. Portions of the original township have been annexed by the Cities of Heath and Newark and moved into Johnny Clem and Legends townships, respectively, the paper townships created by those cities. In August 2013, the village of Buckeye Lake was removed from Union Township and placed in Buckeye Lake Township, a paper township that includes all of the village in Licking County. In 2015, a portion of the township previously annexed by the village of Granville was removed and placed in Granville Township. In 2022, a majority of the village of Hebron was removed from the township and placed in Hebron Township, a newly-created paper township.
