Al Qattara Oasis, lying to the north of Al Ain, forms an attractive patchwork of date palms, fruit orchards and cool pathways. Several archaeological sites on the eastern fringe of Al Qattara, bordering Buraimi, have revealed beautiful gold ornaments: the finds came from a 14 metre long collective tomb, dated to the first half of the second millennium BC.

The oasis has a number of historical buildings dating mostly from the beginning of the twentieth century. Nine of the nineteen buildings are mosques, testifying to the central role played by religion within the community.
