"The airfield at Sigiriya was initially established by the Royal Air Force in 1942, during the World War II. Since there was no requirement, after WW II, it was abandoned by the RAF in 1946. The present Station was declared open...on 19th April 1985.
The airfield is equipped with facilities to support medium/light transport aircraft. Commercial airline operators also use this airfield since it is situated close to Sigiriya Rock, which is a very popular tourist destination..." www.airforce.lk/pages.php?pages=sigiriya

  • This site is the historic "Seegiriya", rock palace, built by King "Kashayapa", around 8th Century AC. It is neither the palace of Valupillai Prabahara who is a CONVICTED TERRARIST or built in the 21st Centuary AC. It is supposed to be the 8th wonder of the world and is one of the most beautyful places on earth. Indeed you should come to Sri Lanka, and go to the anciant Sinhalese Capital of Anuradapura and visit this wonderful place.
  • This tag is for the airfield. I'll PM some creators and try to fix all this.
