The monastery was started to built from 1421. For several centuries monastery building suffered from wars and fire. In 18th century end monastery complex was reconstructed, the main works were made during 1773-1780 (architect Kazimieras Kamienskis/Kazimierz Kamieński). The monastery complex was completed in classicism style (architect Augustinas Kosakauskas). Buildings suffered from 1812 war. The monastery was expropriated by Russian government in 1864, as the monks helped to Lithuanian partisans during the rebel. Buildigs were used for different purposes. During 1908-1917 Lithuanian science association was located here, during 1907-1917 - the first in Vilnius Lithuanian 2 class school. Franciscans retrieved the monastery in 1936-1938. Soviet government nationalized the monastery buildings. After Lithuania regained independence the buildings were given to Franciscans.
