The Gate House is part of Chatham University and serves as visitor center, Arboretum headquarters and temporary guest housing. The restored Civil War-era building is, according to the University, the oldest frame house in Pittsburgh and the oldest house on Fifth Avenue's "Millionaire's Row." Originally known as Willow Cottage, it was once owned by industrialist/politician Thomas Marshall Howe.
