KARMRAVANK MONASTERY = RED MONASTERY

Karmravank (Armenian: Կարմրավանք, meaning Red Monastery) is an abandoned 10th century Armenian monastery in the Vaspurakan province of historic Armenia (now in the Van Province of Turkey). It is located in the hills midway between the current towns of Göründü and Altınsaç 12 kilometers west-northwest of Akhtamar Island. It was founded by King Gagik I (908-943) of the Artsruni dynasty. The monastery being gradually destroyed by multiple raids of gold seekers haunting alleged treasures Armenians left after the genocide, because of a deliberately spreading rumours by authorities within the framework of the policy of destroying the cultural heritage of Armenians, as a clear evidence of the existence of the Armenian civilization, which contradicts the statements of the official policy about the allegedly exaggerated number of the Armenian population, and therefore the number of victims.
