metro station, underground facility, 1935_construction, revealed object of cultural heritage (Russia)

Opened on 15 March 1935.
Architect L. S. Teplitsky
Construction engineer G. I. Kibardin
Named after Arbat Street, similar to the station of the Arbatskay-Pokrovskaya line.
Project name was Arbatskaya Ploschad (Arbat Square).
Proposed renaming:Vozdvizhenka, 1992 (not implemented).

Station has a center platform with 8 meter high square columns of pink marble. The floor is covered in red ceramic tiles and the track walls are faced in cream colored ceramic tile.

The station has one lobby (on the west), to which the stairs from the platform exit. Located symmetrically to it is an inactive staircase indicative of plans to build a second exit to Arbat Street, which have existed since the original construction of the station. Because of investor interest in the project, there is now the possibility of this actually happening. It is on the official Moscow Metro plan.
