The Itapuã Square (Largo de Itapuã in Portuguese) is about 300 meters back along the beach to Salvador. It is a well known gathering place for local residents, tourists, and Salvador residents. Standard practice is to buy an Acaraje at Cira's, cross the street to the square, sit at a table, order a beer, and google at the girls. Take it slow if you see some charming Baiana sitting alone: her husband or boy friend is likely across the street, in line at Cira's.

Acaraje, Abara, Ifo, Vatapa, and Cararu are all traditional dishes known in Bahia and in Africa (by the same names). They're good eating but go easy on the hot sauce.
