Itapuã is one of sub-districts of Salvdaor, located on the beach with the same name. This area is very picteresque and famous for the beauty of natural landscapes and remarkable sights (e.g. Abaeté Lagoon, the Lighthouse of Itapuã).
It's also the one of the wealthy neighbourhoods of Bahia's megapolis where laxury villas and high class hotels are located.

Yemanja is the main orisha who is protecting people living in Itapuã and she is the main object of worship and local fests. Originally Itapuã was a village of fishermen (Yemanja, he goddess of seas is protecting all people who are connected with the sea - fishermen, sailors) and the church dedicated to Our Lady of Conceição was built there in 19th century. The Oгr Lady of Conceição is the incarnation of Yemanja in catholicism according the ideas of brasilian religious syncretism.
