Before the Revolution, this pale orange edifice with its portico of enormous Ionic columns was the Moscow Stock Exchange or Birzha. Note the massive wooden door with lions' heads, a favorite motif of late Moscow classicism. Originally built in 1836-39, it was rebuilt in 1873-75 by Aleksandr Kaminsky and restored again in the early 20th century.
