Kolonnawa Balika Vidyalaya was established on 4th May, 1964 with few students from Kolonnawa electorate. The first principal was late Mrs. Danasekara. Later in 1977 it was upgraded to a National school in Jaawardanapura Education Zone during the time of Mrs. S.C. Karunarathna as the principal.


Presently Kolonnawa Balika Vidalaya shines in Kolonnawa Division with more than 2500 students of 5 parallel classes from grade 1 up to grade 13.All three academic streams Science, Commerce and Arts are taught successfully producing remarkable results. The school has achieved great pride in producing doctors, artists, lawyers, judges and other professionals who hold prestigious positions in the country. It also provides English medium studies from grade 6.

Kolonnawa Balika Vidyalaya has gained remarkable achievements in co-curricular and extracurricular activities since then under the guidance of dedicated principals and the teachers. At present the school is achieving the best place in Kolonnawa division in Sri Jayawardanapura zone headed by the wel-dedicated principal Mrs.Yasanthi Herath.
