The former Ft. Ord Veterinary Hospital is the last intact Series 700 WWII-era station veterinary hospital. It was one of the last veterinary hospitals built to serve the large number horses and mules formerly assigned to field artillery and cavalry units, which, in the case of Ft. Ord, was the 76th Field Artillery Regiment and the 107th Cavalry. The half-barracks, designed to accommodate 45 soldiers, are scheduled to be demolished by the Marina Water District, threatening the integrity of this unique and historic military facility.

The horse units became fully mechanized in May 1942, and the station veterinary hospital was remodeled in 1946 into a small animal clinic, serving military working dogs and other animals. Any equine-related equipment was removed for scrap or burial at that time. The U.S. Army Veterinary Corps maintained a presence here until 1994 when they moved to a more modern building.

Five of the buildings are now managed by the city of Marina as the Marina Equestrian Center, while the former barracks is vacant and owned by the Marina Coast Water District.
