I-95 was originally intended to go straight through into Boston and meet up with a proposed I-695 inner beltway around the city. Hippies got wind of the plans to build I-695 and starting clanging pots and pans together. Soon there was a moratorium on freeway construction (including I-95) and traffic around Boston has been a nightmare ever since.

  • If built, take a look where this road would have gone... right through Dorchester. But I guess that doesn't matter, Just poor people there in the way of the progress of the suburbian's desperate and unending need for more interstates to sit on during rush hour. Damned pot banging hippies...
  • c'mon. Traffic in Boston was a nightmare before, and continues to be a nightmare even where there's been massive Interstate Highway construction. The heart of the city was a narrow spit of land, laid out in paths by grazing cows. What do you expect?
  • The road would have gone through Hyde Park, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury, not Dorchester. And there were no hippies when people began protesting this route.
