Big Bayou, located in residential St. Petersburg, is home to a designated anchorage; meaning that within the designated zone vessels may anchor without a 360-degree white light or black day-ball, for a period of time. Unfortunately many derelict vessels take advantage of the situation. Gunkholers are advised to remain on-board their vessels in order to protect from theft. However, the area is well-protected from the elements, has a favorable hard-sand bottom, and is located in a prosperous old waterfront neighborhood, minutes south of downtown waterfront amenities.
