Auckland Domain Duckponds. Water falling on nearby Mt Eden travels underground and surfaces here. This pond was used by the town of Auckland as a source of drinking water between the 1850s and the 1880s when the pumping Station at Western Springs was built. The water welling up here was presumably known as the "eastern springs".
