  • Budha Kedar used to be an important halting place during the days when the pilgrimage used to be done on foot & pilgrims returning from Gangotri enroute to Kedarnath used to stay here. There is a very old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Buses are available from Tehri. There is a P.W.D. Inspection House, a Dharamshala and private lodges providing accommodation. The famous Masatral, 3225mts. above sea level, is 16kms. from here. The trek is enjoyable but one has to make own arrangements for camping. This temple is situated at the confluence of the Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga rivers, at a motorable distance of 59 kms. from Tehri. It is believed that Duyodhan offered tarpana here. According to legends, it is at this temple that the Pandavas encountered Rishi Balkhily at Bhrigu Parvat when they were on the lookout for Shiva after the Kurukshetra battle. The Rishi directed them to the site of the confluence to meet an old manmeditating there. But when the Pandava got there, the old man vanished and instead, a shivling appeared there. Rishi Balkhily instructed the Pandavas to embrace the Shivling in order to free themselves from their sins. Their impressions are stamped on this Shivling – the biggest Shivling in northen India. • Dear Joshi, Please elaborate on the features such as Rivers, mountain peaks, Villages etc. on your region! Thank you! -Viswam
  • I admire the sacred situation of the budha kedar temple and its legend.but the surroundings of the temple have become full of construction. I strongly believe lord shiva was found meditating here so a minimum space should be left between shiva temple and residential houses.
