Saunra Khal is a Central village of Bhardar Patti and one of the well known village of Rudraprayag district. The Village has a population of 457 (including those who working outside but family(wife) is still in village) . It is surrounded by Kafna and Dungra village in the east, Shyanri and Rudernath Danda in the west, Timli village in the north, and satni villagein the south.

Etymology
The name Saunra signifying a place that is beautiful and ‘khal’ in Garhwali means the place covered by mountains.

History
In 1803 AD, the Gorkhas took over Garhwal, Gorkha warriors commanded a huge army in the crusade against King Pradyumna Shah. A 12,000 strong army fought with the Gorkhas at Khurhbure where the king was killed and the people scattered towards hills ad hidden themselves in different location and make new villages, Saunrakhal is one of the village.

Demographics
As of 2010 my survey Saunrakhal has a population of 457. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Saunrakhal has an average literacy rate of 85%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 90%, and female literacy is 75%. In Saunrakhal, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Climate
Saunrakhal features a typical version of a long very cold winter and brief mild summer. Winter are long and extremely cold, from early October to mid -April, with the monsoon season in between. Beginning of May. Extreme temperatures range from −6 °C to 40°C the annual mean temperature is 20 °C

With largely variety of festivals are celebrated here. Saunrakhal has a number of places to visit. Local hangouts like the Khal “Bazar”, Govt. Hopital road. Saunrakhal has many temples and is often visited by devotees. The Pitashin devi temple, Rudernath (Ruda danda), Nagarja temple Bala sundery another Heet & Binser devta temple etc

  • Hi Guys, Last week (10days) I spent at Saunrakhal with my family, Unfortunately we were late and when we reached at saunra RAM LEELA was finished. It was not first time we were at saunra in summer, usually we went there but this time was diffrent, now saunra was not that saunra which we left back last 10 years its totally changed. I mentioned below my new experiences at Saunra which impress me and motivate me towards saunra again, very frankly i will suggest the people of saunra and near that saunra khal is better option after retirement (old age)rather than Dehradun and Srinagar. My Experience 1. At Srinagar i found Three cab and one Service Bus 2. When i reached Saunra SDM was there with there delegates to solve out all problems at saunra 3. Cab dropped me jus at my Home. 4. Weather incredible every dat 2pm-5 pm rain was coming/cold air blowing(Temp.avg.22oC)and at night you can not sleep without blanket. 5. Water problem almost solved tanker was coming/hand pum was properly working its nice to see. 6. Last but not least the attitute of Saunra very aggressive(to work hard for saunra in each form i will appreciate it and Pradhan Mr. Sujan Negi for his work) This is one another good news that from 11.6.2010 Saunrakhal is getting new water tanker capacity 10,000 ltr per days. Can any one believe that date 7.6.2010 was the coldest days of summer at saunra temp. was 10oC at evening and night. "INCREDIBLE" Thanks

  • This was an excellent feed back given about this beautiful place and reflects how fast the place is developing.This may not be liked by many because it is owner's pride neighbour's envy. But let me also remind that I was also there a few days back and lucky to watch the Ramlila's proceedings.This reminded me of those days when we also used to play a part in it.Visited many palces like Badrinath, Auli etc. The pace at which the development is going on, I am sure people will definetely opt for this place full of peace and tranquilty,lovely weather and beautiful surrounding.   • All is well re bhaiya all is well. I have been on all the popular treking routes in Garhwal region whether it is Har Ki Doon in Purola/Mori/Sankri/Talluka Region , Pawanwali, Doodhtoli in Gairsain Region, Pindari Glacier which is the origin of Pindar Ganga one of the tributary of Holy Ganga all the places has their beauty of their own. In my child hood during the summer vacation it was my passion to visit Saunrakhal to procure groceries from the shop of Sh. Bhandari of village Timli. In addition during the clear weather it was mesmerising to view the snow clad Chaukhamba and other peaks of Garhwal Himalayas from Saunrakhal. Village Baanshi being land locked from all the side does not offer this opportunity. I am a nature lover and fond of wandering into the remote Himalayas.   • Negiji , read your idea of progressive planning. I suggest you to throw away the idea’s of development of new era. In fact, we all are living in great confusion. We have lost our sense power to distinct between rise and fall. Need of hour is to save our environment. Global warming is a burning question. This summer, when I visited this area I found a road connection from Srinagar to Saunra. I took a long breathe. But when I saw view around me. Forest were horribly without a leaf, then a saw river Badiyar which was breathing last. Then I took a long breathe again. No doubt opening of a new school is not a bad idea.

The area was long neglected by the successive govts and when the attention is being paid,the people start singing the monotonous tune of environmental disturbances.The struggle of the locals who are almost at the end of their lively hood can not be undervalued. They too want to avail the latest facilities like others and it is their democratic right which can not be put under the carpet.You have left this area to have access over the better education,latest technology for personnel gain and today you are advising not to even talk about the development of this area which itself speaks volume of the hypocrisy involved in it. Let me tell you very honestly and with full conscience that we have very clear strategy for far more better development of the area and time will tell you it. If the forests have lost the greenery and the rivers are dried up,the reasons are different and well known to everyone and can be corrected.   • Dear Mr.Rawat, Treading a life of hermit is not a joke as it requires lot of courage and strong will. By helping poor and needy one does not necessarily need to do that. It can be done by any of us while enjoying a normal life and as you said that you are around 50 years old, I am very surprised to know your reaction as at the fag end of your carrier, it is necessary to assess one's contribution to the society as an individual otherwise how can we differentiate between a civilized human being and an animal who just survives for its need only. You mentioned your association with CM Office,please advise CMO to enforce the water harvesting technique as Delhi does not have sufficient water to cater to the need of millions here. How can i tell you, in my next reply i will give you the name of all reason which consuming water more and more. We people unable for new sources if you have an idea plz. come with me saunra and rejuvenate the sources, you are most well come, we will also appciate you. My dear friends it a story like that the people don’t get job there and run out of Saunra/Uttarakhand /India and enjoy there life and became a philosophers /mentor. If you think everything is going well, you are missing a lot. I don't understand, why you people started throwing your weight around if something is gone not according to your taste. Please hold your priority list correctly otherwise you would never be able to understand what is on the top. In fact what you are seeing on below bottom is above the top. In my view it was better when the area was neglected by those corrupt officials and crackpot politicians otherwise, this heaven would have gone a hell many years ago. Only one course is offered here “retain your ignorance” that you brought here at the time of admission. Here a lab is established where so many rivers flows, a number of ocean consist and thousands of mountain exists. You have to study with close your eye you have to attend a lecture ramming your index finger in the hole of both ears. Almost everything is very strange happens in this establishment. We all will have to surrender all our certificates and ceded all our knowledge to the dean time to time otherwise, at the end of the study course all the certificates will be snatched and all the knowledge will be washed. No degree will be awarded. Successful students are not allowed to enter in this college again. And pupils who will not be able to retain his/her ignorance will have to enroll here again. I am pupil of this UNIVERSE CITY and my parents brought me here.

  • रुद्रप्रयाग, जागरण कार्यालय: जखोली में युवा कल्याण विभाग की ओर से आयोजित ब्लॉक स्तरीय ग्रामीण खेलकूद प्रतियोगिताएं संपन्न हो गई हैं। वालीबाल प्रतियोगिता में सौराखाल व कबड्डी में फलाटी विजयी रहा। ब्लॉक मुख्यालय में तीन दिवसीय खेलकूद प्रतियोगिताओं के अंतिम दिन मुख्य अतिथि ब्लॉक प्रमुख जगदेश्वरी भारद्वाज ने कहा कि ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में खेलों के आयोजन से लोगों में जागरूकता पैदा होती है तथा आपसी भाईचारा भी बढ़ता है। वालीबाल प्रतियोगिता में नौ न्याय पंचायतों की 18 टीमों ने प्रतिभाग किया। फाइनल में ग्राम सभा घेंघड़ व सौंराखाल के बीच हुए रोचक मुकाबले हुआ। इसमें सौंराखाल विजयी रही। वहीं कबड्डी प्रतियोगिता में खलियाण, कपणियां, नंदवांण गांव, लिस्वाल्टा, घेंघड़ व फलाटी ने प्रतिभाग किया। इसमें कपणिया एवं फलाटी के बीच फाइनल मुकाबला हुआ। फलाटी ने इस मुकाबले में जीत दर्ज की। वहीं लंबी कूद में शैलेन्द्र प्रथम, पंचम सिंह द्वितीय तथा मनोज तृतीय स्थान पर रहा। ऊंची कूद में मनोज प्रथम, मुकेश द्वितीय और प्रवीन ने तीसरा स्थान हासिल किया। गोला फेंक में मनोज प्रथम, शंकर राणा द्वितीय तथा पवन तृतीय स्थान पर रहा। 100 मीटर दौड़ में वीरेन्द्र प्रथम, राहुल एवं विपिन को तीसरा स्थान मिला। 200 मीटर में शैलेन्द्र प्रथम, भागचन्द्र दूसरे और हिमांशु ने तीसरा स्थान दर्ज किया। इस अवसर पर ज्येष्ठ प्रमुख अर्जुन सिंह गहरवार, कनिष्ठ प्रमुख शंकर सिंह राणा, सुरेन्द्र सकलानी, सम्पूर्णानंद के साथ ही युवा कल्याण विभाग के अधिकारी व अन्य जनप्रतिनिधि मौजूद थे।

  • हिंदू-मुस्लिम एकता का गवाह है डांगी और बेडूबगड़ गांव Posted: 16 Sep 2010 10:02 AM PDT सौहार्द के साथ मनाया रमजान का महीना अगस्त्यमुनि। हिन्दू-मुस्लिम एकता और आपसी भाईचारे का परिचय देते हुए मंदाकिनी घाटी के डांगी सिनघटा और बेडूबगड़ गांव में इन दिनों रमजान का पवित्र महीना सौहार्द के साथ मनाया गया। वर्षों से चली आ रही परंपरा का निर्वहन करते हुए ग्रामीण धर्म के नाम पर देश को बांटने वालों के सामने एक मिसाल कायम कर रहे हैं। सिनघटा और बेडूबगड़ गांव में हिन्दू-मुस्लिम परिवार कई वर्षों से साथ-साथ रह रहे हैं। इतना ही नहीं सभी तीज-त्यौहार को ग्रामीण मिलजुल कर मनाते हैं। आजादी से पहले गढ़वाल के राजाओं ने यहां पर कु छ मुस्लिम परिवारों को बसाया था, जो आज भरे-पूरे गांव के रूप में विकसित हो गए हैं। ये परिवार न केवल मुस्लिम सभ्यताओं को संजोए हुए हैं, बल्कि साथ ही गढ़वाल की संस्कृति का भी निर्वहन कर रहे हैं। लोक संस्कृति के बीच रचे-बसे इन गांवों में मुस्लिम लोग ठेठ स्थानीय गढ़वाली बोली बोलते हैं। गढ़वाल की पारंपरिक तिबारी, पठालों (पत्थर) की छत और खान-पान यहां तक की रिश्ते-नाते भी आम गांवों की तरह हैं। ये लोग हिंदुओं के देवी-देवताओं के साथ ही त्योहारों का भी ये पूरी तरह से सम्मान करते हैं। जिस उत्साह से स्थानीय निवासी ईद और रमजान मनाते हैं, उसी उत्साह से होली, दीपावली, श्रावण व बसंत का आगमन भी मनाते हैं। डांगी और सिनघटा गांवों में हिंदुओं और मुस्लिम परिवारों के मकान आस-पास ही हैं। दोनों बस्तियों के बीच गांव की कुल देवी शाकुंभरी देवी मंदिर और इसके ऊपर मस्जिद और ईदगाह स्थित है। इन दिनों जहां गांव में शारदीय नवरात्रों की तैयारियां चल रही हैं, वहीं मुस्लिम परिवार क्षेत्र की खुशहाली के लिए नेम्मते मांगते हुए रमजान के पवित्र महीने में रोजा अदा किया। पंचायती कार्यों में मुस्लिम परिवार भी देते हैं साथ अगस्त्यमुनि। गांव के प्रत्येक पंचायती कार्य में सभी अपनी हिस्सेदारी निभाते हैं। मां भगवती के मंदिर में यज्ञ के अवसर पर मुस्लिम परिवार भी अपनी फाट (हिस्सा) देते हैं। गांव के प्रत्येक परिवार के जन्म से लेकर मृत्यु तक के हर संस्कार में इनकी सहभागिता देखने लायक है। दिलों में बसता है प्यार अगस्त्यमुनि। ग्राम पंचायत सिनघटा की मुस्लिम प्रधान सबाना और प्रधान डांगी मोहम्मद यूसुफ कहते हैं कि दुनिया चाहे कितनी भी मजहब की दीवारें खड़ी कर दे, इसका असर ग्रामीणों पर नहीं पड़ेगा। क्योंकि यहां पर हर किसी के दिल में मजहब से बढ़कर प्यार बसता है। दीवाली में अली और रमजान में राम का नाम मिला हुआ है।
  • उत्तराखंड के सपनों में रंग भर रहा रैथल गांव - गांव की तस्वीर ऐसी कि शहर भी रश्क कर उठें - यहां रह रहे 200 परिवारों के मन में भी नहीं पलायन की बात भी नहीं आती गांधी का भारत गांव में बसता था, गांवों का कायाकल्प ही उनका सपना था। पर हालात बड़ी तेजी से करवट ले रहे हैं। तमाम कारणों से गांव वजूद खोने लगे हैं। उत्तराखंड भी इससे अछूता नहीं है। यहां तो गांवों से पलायन को आंतरिक सुरक्षा के खतरे के रूप में देखा जाने लगा है। भले ही सूबे की ओवरऑल तस्वीर चिंता की लकीरें खींच रही हो, लेकिन यहां ऐसा भी एक गांव है जो बापू के सपने में रंग भर रहा है। वह भी सिर्फ ' मिनी सरकार यानी पंचायत के बूते। यह गांव है सीमांत जनपद उत्तरकाशी के दुरूह इलाके का रैथल। रैथल की तस्वीर सचमुच ऐसी है कि शायद शहर भी रश्क कर उठें। दरअसल, गांवों में एक तो अभी तक विकास की 'सड़क नहीं पहुंच पाई। दूसरा शहर की ओर जाने वाली सड़कों पर शुरू हुई आधुनिकता की अंधी दौड़ गांवों से लोगों को बाहर निकाल रही है। आलम यह कि पहाड़ों में तो गांव खाली होते जा रहे हैं। कारण तमाम गिनाए जाते हैं, लेकिन रैथल गांव अलग ही कहानी बयां करता है। इस गांव में बिछी सीवर लाइन, टाइल्स बिछी चमचमाती गलियां और जगमगाती स्ट्रीट लाइट देख लगता ही नहीं कि आप उत्तराखंड के किसी गांव में हैं। यह सब इंगित कर रहा है कि आचार-व्यवहार से भ्रष्टाचार दूर हो जाए तो लोक का तंत्र ही सच्चे अर्थ में तस्वीर बदल सकता है। उत्तरकाशी मुख्यालय से 45 किलोमीटर दूर और समुद्रतल से 1800 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर बसे रैथल गांव से अभी तक न तो कोई मंत्री बना और न ही विधायक। इस गांव की तस्वीर लोकतंत्र की सबसे छोटी इकाई ग्राम सभा और ग्रामीणों ने खुद ही बदल डाली। शहर जैसी सुविधाओं से सम्पन्न रैथल गांव भटवाड़ी ब्लाक मुख्यालय से दस किमी दूर है और प्रसिद्ध दयारा बुग्याल (अल्पाइन ग्रास) पहुंचने के लिए सड़क मार्ग का अंतिम पड़ाव पर है। यहीं से द्यारा के लिए आठ किमी का पैदल मार्ग शुरू होता है। रैथल गांव चमचमाती पक्की सड़क से जुड़ा है। मुख्यमार्ग से ही गांव में प्रवेश के लिए कई रास्ते हैं। गांव में जिस गली से भी प्रवेश करो वह सीसी या फिर टाइल्स से बनी है। साफ सुथरी गलियों से ही ग्रामीणों का सफाई को लेकर जागरूकता का अंदाज लगाया जा सका है। गांव में बिजली की दो लाइनें हैं। एक विद्युत विभाग की तो दूसरी पर्यटन विभाग की स्ट्रीट लाइट वाली लाइन। पहाड़ के हर गांव की तरह रैथल गांव भी सीढ़ीनुमा है। गांव के बीचोंबीच भड़ (वीर ) राणा घमेरू का चार सौ नब्बे साल पुराना लकड़ी का बना पांच मंजिला मकान आज भी खड़ा है। लगभग दो सौ परिवारों वाला यह गांव उत्तराखंड का शायद पहला गांव होगा, जहां एक भी परिवार ने पलायन नहीं किया। सेब, आलू, राजमा और गेहूं यहां की मुख्य फसल है। गांव के बीचोंबीच लाखों की लागत से बना शानदार कम्युनिटी हाल और अत्याधुनिक सार्वजनिक शौचालय गांव की समृद्धि की कहानी बयां करता है। रैथल के ग्रामीणों की सादगी तो देखिए यदि वे गांव की सुख सुविधाएं भोगते हैं तो बरसात के मौसम में दस हजार फीट की ऊंचाई पर स्थित गुई और दयारा की छानियों (घास से बनी झोपडिय़ां) में भी यह लोग अपने जानवरों के साथ रहते हैं। रैथल के विकास की कहानी यहीं समाप्त नहीं हो जाती है। गांव में गढ़वाल मंडल विकास निगम का गेस्ट हाउस है तो हेलीपैड और स्टेडियम निर्माण प्रक्रिया में है। 18 साल तक गांव के प्रधान और साढ़े नौ साल तक ब्लाक प्रमुख रहे चंद्र सिंह राणा का कहना है कि पर्यटन के नक्शे पर लाने के लिए अभी बहुत किया जाना बाकी है। गांवों की तस्वीर भयावह देहरादून: उत्तराखंड में गांवों के खाली होने की तस्वीर पर नजर डालें तो काफी भयावह है। अर्थ एवं संख्या विभाग के वर्ष 2001 के आंकड़ों के अनुसार राज्य तेरह से में नौ जिलों मेंं कुल 59 गांव जन शून्य हो गए। उत्तरकाशी के दो, चमोली के सात, टिहरी के नौ, पौड़ी के बीस, रुद्रप्रयाग के दो, पिथौरागढ़ के आठ, अल्मोड़ा के नौ, बागेश्वर और चंपावत के एक-एक गांव जनशून्य हो चुके हैं। रूद्रप्रयाग जनपद के नए आंकड़ों के मुताबिक जन शून्य होने वाले गांवों की संख्या अब 26 पहुंच गई है।

  • Dear Atul, Why don't u set example by reading above story in Sera Gaon iteslf. It will be very interesting! At least you can install one more ABG there or OPTI LION! Because if Sera Gaon gets more infrastructural development like roads, electricity and Hospitals, then definitely you will get preference for installing ABG or OPTI LION and than you will stop your frequent visit to Varanasi and go to this place for cartridges business and may be for AMC/CMC under the name of your organization M/S Gairola Enterprises. I think it is a good idea and then you will get all the luxury treatment there with all you want!

  • एलटी संवर्ग के रिक्त पदों के लिए आवेदन की मियाद बढ़ाई आवेदन की मियाद बढ़ाई नैनीताल: एलटी संवर्ग के रिक्त पदों के लिए आवेदन की मियाद शासन ने 5 से बढ़ाकर 10 नवंबर कर दी है। मंडल में सामान्य के 679 व महिला वर्ग के 60 पदों के लिए आवेदकों में होड़ मची हुई है। प्रवेश परीक्षा केंद्रों का निर्धारण भी कर दिया गया है। उल्लेखनीय है 30 सितंबर को शिक्षा विभाग की ओर से एलटी के रिक्त पदों के लिए नियुक्ति की अधिसूचना जारी की गयी। गढ़वाल मंडल में सामान्य के 515 व महिला संवर्ग के 50 तथा कुमाऊं में सामान्य वर्ग के 679 व महिला वर्ग के 60 पदों के लिए विज्ञप्ति जारी की गई। मंडल में सामान्य वर्ग में हिंदी के 109, अंग्रेजी के 108, संस्कृत के 35,गणित के 53, विज्ञान के 90, सामान्य विषय के 86, कला के 108, शारीरिक शिक्षा के 84 व गृह विज्ञान के 6 पद शामिल हैं। जबकि महिला वर्ग में हिंदी व गणित के 5-5, अंग्रेजी व संस्कृत के 3-3, शारीरिक शिक्षा के 16, कला के 21, गृह विज्ञान के 6 व विज्ञान विषय के एक पद के लिए नियुक्ति प्रक्रिया शुरू की गई है। पूर्व में शासन ने आवेदन पत्र जमा करने की अंतिम तिथि 5 नवंबर निर्धारित की थी, जिसे अब बढ़ाकर 10 नवंबर कर दिया गया है। उत्तराखंड प्राविधिक शिक्षा परिषद के तत्वावधान में होने वाली एलटी की प्रवेश परीक्षा के लिए परीक्षा केंद्रों का निर्धारण कर लिया गया है। परीक्षा के लिए मंडल में नैनीताल, हल्द्वानी, रुद्रपुर, काशीपुर, खटीमा, अल्मोड़ा, द्वाराहाट, बागेश्र्वर, पिथौरागढ़ को केंद्र बनाया गया है। परीक्षा तिथि का ऐलान आवेदन जमा होने की प्रक्रिया पूरी होने के बाद होने की संभावना है।

Last time Ivisited the Harsil and was interested to see the Wilson House but to my bad luck the house was destroyed by fire a long back. Mr. Wilson was a Britishers who married to a local women.

I fully agree with your concern because with glimmer of modern education, the importance of moral values is diminishing day by day.If you go back to the age of Mahabharat, you will surprise to know how tedious were the rules and regulation of Gurukul. They used to emphasize more on the moral values along with strict discipline besides the teachings. We will definitely like to have boarding facility as the place identified for school is big enough for it. My father who retired as principal long way back is basically brain behind it. We definitely will prove ourselves to be more near to giving good, quality and healthy education to young ones. Moreover ,you also know that it requires lot of efforts, finances and keen dedication. Last month only we organised a Volleyball tournament under the name of Modern Gurukul Cup comprising of 12 teams from various parts of Bhardar and it was won by SATNI. The news was published along with winner team in many news papers including DAINIK JAGRAN and AMAR UJALA. So we are trying our best to rejuvenate among our youngster the feeling of it. However,in this endevour of ours, we need support of persons like you who can boost our confidence and give us strength to sustain it. Nice to have compliments for Sunra Khal but still a lot needs to be done, hopefully the new MLA will do something for it as the people of this territory were finally able to get rid of that old man who did a lot of announcement but hardly could fulfill it.   • Hi, frens! nice to see you here after a long. Paid a visit to this area last month. In recent years I observed a lot of changes here, villages are losing its charm as many people have already left the place and migrated to Dehradun, Srinagar and other small towns. Now, villages have started looking like an old age homes and sometimes orphanage. People does not looks interested in agriculture profession and consequently , most of the agricultural land can seen fallow and many-many houses abandoned. Milk is replaced with alcohol and ghee with tobacco and gutkha. People of village have totally lost their spontaneity , life equipped with mobile and DTH they are becoming more and more worldly and heady, it seems that tainted outer world have started entering in them through these devices.
  • A Big Hello to All! Yes I agree what has been mentioned about the Villages loosing its charm and culture as well. An invasion by the Electronic media destroying it all! Even the people have changed a lot unlike early when you used to get warm welcome while visiting them. You wont believe that even if you meet them for a greeting, they would do it all for just formality. Everything has changed there. Dont talk about Ghee or MIlk, you will hardly find it. Yes if carry along with you enough stock of liquour you are definetely bound to attract many and can enjoy a comfortable stay till the stock lasts or after that they all will avoid you. This is the hard reality now there in villages. I dont know how many will agree but it is there.
