Established in 1883, Nunica Cemetery is one of two long-time cemeteries in Crockery Township, the other being Ottawa Center. The cemetery maintenance is overseen by a township committee who ask that people stay out of the grounds at night.

Haunted? Local paranormal investigators and ghost hunters think so. Ghost hunters often report cold spots, voices, orbs and in Nunica’s case, a “lady in white” apparition.

Famous resident: The cemetery contains a Civil War veteran who received the Congressional Medal of Honor in the Union Army. Henry E. Plant rescued his unit’s colors from the Confederates when the standard bearer was killed on March 19, 1865 in the Battle of Bentonville, N.C., according to county records. He died in 1925.
