Comprised of two major shipbreaking companies, IZMIR Ship Recycling Co. and LEYAL Ship Recycling Ltd., the Aliaga Ship Breaker site is a major ship deconstruction and recycling facility which processes a wide variety of seagoing vessels in accordance with ISO and OHSAS standards.

In addition to being the scrapping site of a number of notable passenger vessels, the facilities have recently seen increased use as the primary recycling site for decommissioned Royal Navy vessels.
One such ship was the HMS Ark Royal aircraft carrier which served during the Falklands War.
